2nd Day of School

Hey girl teacher

This morning I took Ryan's advice. I taught on and forgot about Monday!

Today was a much better day! Things went how they were supposed to and most of my little ones listened to me. I still had to move one clip but that little one is just going to be a piece of work this year. She is used to playing at school and not working, which is sad. Her Kindergarten teacher did her a disfavor by allowing her to write with a crayon and be lazy. She also did a disfavor to her by not starting her with RTI. She needs extra help and no one has ever given it to her. Little girl doesn't know her color words or sounds. It will be a challenging year with all my little different ones but I know they'll all come out smarter because I pushed them.

My students this year are good at math. They are doing great with beginning adding and seem to enjoy this subject the most. We will really need to work on reading this year though. We started learning about Read to Self today and read for 3 minutes. They got it but I have a lot of wiggly ones so I know it will take a lot of practice. I can't wait to see how the year progresses with this class.

Thank you for all of your positive comments yesterday! I love my blogging community and readers!

  3. After reading todays post which was great by the way. I went and read yesterdays, and baby you had an awesome day today compared to yesterday. I wish you the best of luck as those rough patches smooth out. Stick to your guns which you know already and stay firm. It seems like they have the picture a little better now. Seek help for your little one too- better now than never. I am your newest follower.

  4. Go you!!! I am happy you overcame yesterday! I had a move a clip down today on my first day, and it was one of my most cute and perfect students... it made me sad but I didn't force her to talk while I was teaching! :)

    1. I love how you said I didn't force her to talk while I was teaching...I had to tell this to my student who rolled her eyes at me today when I asked her to stop talking for the 4th time. I didn't force you to talk and gave you several warnings! Hopefully she'll get the picture after her clip has been moved everyday this week!

  5. Oh girl- I know exactly how you feel as we have several kinder teachers who don't have high expectations. You'll get those kiddos where they need to be! I have to continually remind myself that it really does take nine weeks to "train" them as to what your expectations are!

  6. Yay! I'm SO glad your 2nd day was better! :)

I totally give you K-1 teachers SO much credit because you are really building the foundation and it's very obvious to the next teacher who had high expectations the year before. I had 2nd graders last year and could tell immediately who had which teacher just based on their own expectations for behavior in the classroom.

Rock on darlin, you will have a great year :)

    1. Thanks for your kind words! It is crazy how you can tell who the student has had the year before. It makes such a big difference though! Expectations need to be set high for kids in every grade level!
