Thanks for letting me know. Feel free to let me know if it's STILL NOT working!!! Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "How about them apples?"
Hi I'm your newest follower, I love reading also and I love teaching reading. I teach second grade in Idaho. If you ever get a chance come on over to my blog bubbalulu.blogspot.com
Hey Jess, I am trying to find your original post about the fridge magnets, the one with the poem...Where in your blog is it? I love your blog by the way! I am a fellow Florida Blogger and your newest follower! ~Natalie
Hey Natalie! Thanks so much for stopping by! I always love to find fellow Florida bloggers! We just have so much in common. My original post about the magnets is here: http://www.ramblingaboutreading.blogspot.com/2011/08/what-im-loving-wednesday.html
Hi Jess, I am a veteran teacher, however, I am a novice Daily 5 teacher. Several grad class friends loved the program so I decided to read it. Just finished it and am so excited. My biggest concern is that I only have 90 minutes for all of language arts...minus writing/reading workshop. How do you fit all of the cycles into that short period? Yours is the first blog that I found with a shorter time period.
Hey! I know it can be hard to fit it all in so make it work for your schedule and your kids. I have a 90-minute reading block each morning from 9:30-11:00. Whole group reading 9:30-10:00 Daily 5/guided reading 10:00-11:00 This is what has worked for me in the past but every class is different and it may take longer in the beginning. If we ever didn’t finish during this time we would come back to it after lunch. The kids were very understanding or this and knew what was expected. I don't stop and do mini-lessons in-between each rotation I just switch like doing centers. This has worked well for me for 3 years but you'll have to try it with yours. Hope this helps you out! If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me! Jess
Do you teach 15 minute guided reading groups? I was thinking that I could fit it in if I simply used the choices as center work time, but I do love the strategy reading lessons. I like the idea of a whole group strategy lesson, maybe halfway through my g.r. groups. 8:45-9:10 Language Arts, 9:10-9:40 g.r. 1 &2, 9:40-9:50 Strategy lesson, 9:50-10:20 g.r. 3 & 4. 10:20-10:30 snack and sharing. Do you think it might work? No one else in my building is even familiar with the daily 5, so I'm kind of on my own. I want to succeed!
Hi Jess, I love your writing center bulliten board. Could you please let me know where you got the materials for it. I would love to put it up in my classroom,
This was a combination of helpful writing sheets I found from http://thefirstgradeparade.blogspot.com/2011/08/free-for-all-friday.html and http://firstgradefresh.blogspot.com/2012/01/workstation-revamp-silly-sentences.html
Hi Jess! I am facilitating some professional development in the upcoming weeks around integrating Daily 5 and Houghton Mifflin. I am hoping to share your post from June '12, and wanted to give you the heads up, in the hopes that you will see added traffic here from MN. I was wondering if you would mind if I display it to the whole group that I will be facilitating to show an example of how it can be integrated? Just don't want to use your writing without you knowing. Let me know if there is any trouble with this!! Thanks! ~ Jen
